Humanity continued its decline. A sin as grave as murder occurred among the first generation born outside of Paradise. Cain murdered his younger brother Abel because he did what was right and Cain didn’t. Consequently, God banished Cain from the region, just as his parents were ejected from Eden. And so, from the very beginning, we see the offspring of the serpent and the woman, the city of Babylon and the city of Jerusalem, the world and the Church, the reprobate and the body of Christ. However, God’s promise of the Redeemer remained, and after seven years of penance Seth was born. It would be from Seth’s line that the woman and her Child would come. Not without meaning, Seth was born in the same grotto that Jesus would be born in now known as the Grotto of the Crib or the Crib Cave. Seth, the Child of Promise; and Jesus, the Messiah. Thank God for his providential care!
