In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). He was in the beginning with God (John 1:2). All things came to be through him (John 1:3). What came to be through God was life, and this life was the light of the human race (John 1:4). But the earth was corrupt in the view of God and full of lawlessness (Genesis 6:11). He, on his part, was about to bring the flood waters on the earth, to destroy all creatures under the sky in which there is the breath of life; everything on earth would perish (Genesis 6:17). The earth became without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind swept over the waters (Genesis 1:2). However, the light shone in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it (John 1:5).
